California Nations Indian Gaming Association backs Internet bill

Thursday, February 24, 2011

The California Nations Indian Gaming Association has endorsed Senate Bill 40, a bill to legalize Internet gaming in the state.

Tribal leaders debated the issue at CNIGA's annual conference last week. Some said it was critical for tribes to take a stand.

"We had some tribes that were concerned, but at the end of the day it passed," Jerome Encinas, CNIGA's director of government affairs, told The Sacramento Bee.

Federal law bans Internet wagering except for games that are legal under state law or under a tribal-state compact.
